Children’s rights are essential freedoms and the integral rights of all human being below the age of 18, these rights are applicable to every child regardless of the child’s parents/guardian, gender, color, race, physical status or creed. Equality of opportunity is vital, a girl child should be given the same opportunity as the boy child; every child should own equal rights to have an acceptable and satisfactory standard of living. The child is not a property to parents or helpless object to charity, rather human being with specific rights, basic quality of life should be the right of every child and not an entitlement enjoyed by few! The child right laws to mention a few include;.
Every child is worthy of equal treatment and not discrimination, irrespective of gender, ethnicity, religion, race, socio-economic status, physical appearances etc. Also children with physical disabilities have the rights to obtain the necessary amenities they need to survive. Likewise children from displaced camps or refugees should be given aids they need to maintain same rights as children born in that community or country.
The child has the right to live in a family unit, the family should be able to implant a sense of belonging, association in the child and also provide an affectionate, nourishing and conducive environment. A child always deserves to feel an emotional connection to their caregivers. Except in cases where the parents or home front is abusive, neglectful and harmful the child needs to be in contact with parents or legal guardians.
The child have the right to be alive, to have the best possible care, nourishing meals, appropriate clothing, clean water, electricity etc. The chance to learn health essential hygiene habits, the mental, emotional, psychological and physical health of every child should be considered routinely. Also, governments owe it as her responsibility to provide health amenities to people who cannot afford it.
Every child has the right to proper education; elementary education should be free as this serves as the basic for all children growth, secondary education needs to be accessible to every child when applied for. The education front can be either in the formal approach or informal approach; (skill acquisition, talents discovery) this is required to prepare children as they contribute as dynamic citizens having a sense of responsibility and community building.
If a child gets traumatized, victimized or subjected to harm they should be given proper remuneration of care and rehabilitation. Such child should be given adequate prescribed help after enduring any type of trauma or neglect so that their health, integrity and dignity can be regained. Resources and finances ought to be made available by the government to support such child from poor and marginalized communities.
